9.35 Revenue Commissioners Presentation
Revenue will provide an update on recent developments and planned future developments which will affect the operation of payroll including the new proposed Universal Social Contribution which is intended to replace PRSI, Health levy and Income levy deductions. Revenue will provide a panel to answer a range of questions from delegates on all aspects of the operation of the PAYE system. If delegates wish to put questions to the panel, priority will be given to those who provide a written question in advance of the conference and questions will also be taken from the floor.

11.15 Engaging with your Pension
David Malone, Head of Information, The Pensions Board
David will speak to delegates about the need for Payroll and HR professionals to engage with their employees in relation to their company pension. Employees generally rely on Payroll and HR personnel to advise them in relation to their pension entitlements and David will outline how and what they can do for their employees and how they can avail of the Pensions Board's services to provide answers and information for their employees.
David will also discuss the new National Pensions Framework which proposes to introduce compulsory pension enrolment for all employees and mandatory employer contributions which will no doubt add to the workload of all payroll personnel.

3.00 Termination Payments

Ciaran will outline the rules which relate to the payment of termination payments and how to calculate what element of a termination payment is taxable and what amount is exempt. He will also outline the different methods for calculation the exemption for employees and how employees may be entitled to further tax relief through Top Slicing Relief after the end of the year in which their employment is terminated. Ciaran will also highlight little known issues which arise in relation to PRSI liabilities and pension contributions in relation to termination payments.

3.45 The Employment Equality Act
Brian Merriman, The Equality Authority
Brian will outline the main principles of the Employment Equality Act and how they affect all employers. The Act prohibits discrimination in employment on nine specific grounds and Brian will outline the most common areas where employers regularly fall foul of this legislation, more often than not though ignorance of the Act.
